Mars is the 𝕒𝕣𝕔𝕙𝕖𝕥𝕪𝕡𝕒𝕝 𝕎𝕒𝕣𝕣𝕚𝕠𝕣, 𝔾𝕠𝕕 𝔸𝕣𝕖𝕤. Sometimes conflated with aggression, war, and destruction, Mars energy also brings power. A passion and determination that is pure instinct, without reflection. It’s this drive which fills us with courage, as though we are a knight charging to face the dragon in battle.
Psychologically, Mars is the need to define ourselves as ɪɴᴅɪᴠɪᴅᴜᴀʟꜱ. The pull towards separation from self and other, just as the knight marches towards the dragon with fierce independence.
Mars is expansion of our “will to live.” Mars gives us the vigor to take charge of our lives, not to suppress the anger and aggression but how to channel and contain. It’s potent and dynamic. It’s also tempestuous and impulsive. In its 🅳🅰🆁🅺🅴🆂🆃 🆂🅷🅰🅳🅾🆆 🅵🅾🆁🅼, it’s rage, cruelty, and sadism. Mars in our chart is the areas in your life where you’re forceful + energetic, or not.
Mars is the reminder of our innate power. Mars, like the Fleetwood Mac song, loves to go its own way. Mars gives no fucks when it comes to doing what’s necessary to get shit done. Mars brings the ꧁fire꧂.
Mars is typically a fast moving planet but when its retrograde, everything comes full stop.
Retrogrades are times of slowing down. When a planet stations retrograde, it gives the appearance of moving backwards. We hear a lot about the fuckery of Mercury Retrograde. But it's just a time to sit with your relationship to the planetary archetypal energy. With Mars retrograde, we’ll get real intimate with how we react to anger. The energy of Mars is redirected, often turning inward. Amping up the pressure and intensity.
Mars Retrograde only happens every 687 days, just about 2 years. The next one isn’t until October 2022. This planet retrogrades for around 10 weeks. So this energy will be sitting with us until November 13, not including the post-retrograde shadow. It's no coincidence that this timing coincides with the upcoming November Presidential Election in the U.S. There will be many themes of battle. Battling our inner + outer demons. The need to defend ourselves. The struggle of survival but also giving voice to the voice-less.
It spends this cycle in the sign of Aries, its ruling sign. It’s been 32 years since this happened and won’t happen again for another 47. Normally, Mars transits signs every 6 weeks but with the Retrograde, it will be in Aries for 6 months. What this means is we get an extra dose of all that Mars brings.
Mars brings the emotional and physical heat, turning the temperature up on tempers. Mars is the renegade who can bring the rage we need, if we're mindful. It's gonna get hot in here, so be cautious of fanning the fiery flames.
We may notice old problems resurfacing. Past relationships, traumas and wounds might bubble back up. We may find ourselves second guessing our instincts. It's a time to regroup. It's an opportunity to gain insight. To take action with intention, not the usual knee-jerk response of Mars.
𝘞𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘨𝘪𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘴𝘭𝘰𝘸𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘰𝘣𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘦. To really get comfortable, and uncomfortable, with our anger, instincts, and impulses. It’s the pause to look before we leap, not a typical Martian way of being. Notice when you want to take the easy way out.
Set your intention for the next four months.
What do you want to learn?
How do you experience anger?
Where can you take action and be more assertive?
Or be okay with just being and do less?
𝐵𝑒 𝑜𝓅𝑒𝓃. 𝐵𝑒 𝒸𝓊𝓇𝒾𝑜𝓊𝓈. 𝐵𝑒 𝓌𝒾𝓁𝓁𝒾𝓃𝑔.
There are so many beautiful things coming your way.
I’ll share more about this rare Retrograde as the cycle progresses. There are quite a few things happening which make this particular Mars retrograde extra juicy.
