Illuminated Shadows: Full Moon Eclipse in Gemini

Updated: Sep 6, 2021

Everything is born out of darkness, then moves into the light of physical manifestation, then back into darkness again.” - Steven Forrest

We’ve got a Full Moon in Gemini in the early hours of tomorrow, 1:28a PST. Along with this is a partial Lunar Eclipse. We’re in the full swing of Sagittarius Season and we’ve got a big astrological connection/conjunction with the Winter Solstice.

More on that in a later post.

Full Moons bring the bright light of reflection, release, and recharge.

Full Moon is a time for action.

When the light of the night shines its brightest to allow us to be in our most full manifesting self. Senses are heightened and shadows are illuminated.

It's a time to look back on what was planted during the intentions of the last new moon.

The energy of Gemini is duality, communication, friendships/relationships, and curiosity. Ruled by the planet, Mercury, and the only planet in Air for the time being, a Gemini Full Moon can bring about confusion, scatteredness, agitation, and indecisiveness. Nothing to worry about, just an awareness!

Nothing I Can Do, A Partial Eclipse of the Heart

“The moon will guide you through the night with her brightness, but she will always dwell in the darkness, in order to be seen.” - Shannon L. Alder

Eclipses, even if partial and not viewable in your hemisphere, bring an extra heightened awareness to our intuitions and more a-ha moments. They open up the doorways for transformation and change. While we have the bright light of the Full Moon, the Eclipse brings the shadow. This combination gives us the opportunity to find the balance between the two. Taking note of what is now exposed to the light and what’s gathered into the shadows.

The duality of an eclipse in Gemini may come in subtle ways. It may come in bold ways. A sense of something missing, can’t make up your mind, struggling with mind and emotions. Maybe you’re not ready for what you can’t make your mind up over. Remember, there may come a time when your decision feels more clear. If it doesn't feel right to make one, be patient.

The twist of the moon is the eclipse, when the "shadow of the earth falls across the face of the moon"- Leah Whitehorse. So we have this tension of opposites of the light and the dark existing at the same time to bring forth something new, something creative. In Jungian terms the shadow represents the unconscious or repressed aspects. Take the time to pay attention to the rumbles underneath what is happening in your life. They can be our best teachers.

Tension of Opposites

With the Sun in Sagittarius (Fire) and the Full Moon Eclipse in Gemini (Air), there is a calling towards discerning what we know against what we believe. The energy of Gemini is the mind, intellect and Sagittarian energy is one of the most spiritual of the zodiac signs.

If we think about this symbolically, we’ve got Fire and Air. What happens if we mix the two? There’s a potential for fast moving heat. It can create and destroy. It brings a mesmerizing force. It can carry things up into the ether. Fire is the Phoenix rising from the flames. Air spins and swirls, leaving space cleared or cluttered.

An average year has 2 Lunar and 2 Solar Eclipses.

This year, guess how many?

SIX! It happens every 4.5 years.

This eclipse and its transits were similar in 2000-2003 and again in 2011. Take a deep look back at what choices, decisions, and events were going on then.

The Full Moon Eclipse in Gemini, because it’s partial, won’t totally upend things.

Hold on Loosely

The key word for this phase is DISCERNMENT. Where you want to flourish, where you need to be still. Full moons call us to release what no longer serves us. To reflect on the last cycle only with discernment, without judgement.

Where are you holding on too tight?

Where are you not holding on enough?

What is being shown to you?

What inner truths seem to be shrinking in the shadows?

What have you gained in the last three months?

What are you ready to leave behind in Autumn?

In what ways do you feel focused?

In what ways do you feel scattered?

Where have you been taking things for granted?

Or just simply get out some paper, a journal, a sketch book. Anything. Insights over the next few days, and the last few if you can reflect, set the tone for the next six months.

TL:DR

“Making the darkness conscious is the true way to enlightenment.” - Carl Jung

The Full Moon Eclipse in Gemini occurs in just a few hours, at 1:28a PST, Monday, November 30. When the light of the night shines its brightest to allow us to be in our most full manifesting self.

Gemini is duality, communication, friendships/relationships, and curiosity. A Gemini Full Moon can bring about confusion, scatteredness, agitation, and indecisiveness. Nothing to worry about, just an awareness!

While we have the bright light of the Full Moon, the Eclipse brings the shadow.

Taking note of what is now exposed to the light and what’s gathered into the shadows.

The gift is in the reminder that all of it is temporary. There’s space to draw back and see a broader view. This time is rife for closure, expanding consciousness, and freeing your mind of what’s holding you down.

Give yourself the permission to trust your inner sense of knowing, allowing your intuition to guide you.

* By shadow and light, I don’t mean positive or negative. They are expressions of the energies of life which we can tap into during the phases of the moon, flavored by what sign it is in.

As always, may the light shine on you. May the shadows teach you. May you be open to the signs and symbols all around you. They are always there, you just need the right kind of vision.
