Libra Season : Love, Justice, and the Pursuit of Balance

Updated: Sep 26, 2022

My favorite season, 𝐿𝒾𝒷𝓇𝒶 𝒮𝑒𝒶𝓈♡𝓃! Likely because it’s my birthday month AND I have four other planets in my natal chart in Libra. (Want to know more about your natal chart? Click here to learn more!)

Libra is the only sign in the zodiac represented by an object, the Scales. Leo is a Lion, Gemini are the Twins, and Sagittarius is the Archer. This could point to how disconnected to animal instinct Libra is. Words often used to describe Libra are 𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘨𝘢𝘯𝘵, 𝘣𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘥, 𝘥𝘪𝘱𝘭𝘰𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘤, 𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘦𝘧𝘶𝘭, 𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘷𝘦, 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘦𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘦, 𝘰𝘳 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦. Libra is the balance between the heart and the mind, intuition + knowledge.

Because it's all about that peace,’ bout that peace, no trouble.

Often seen as social and ꧁༒peace-loving༒꧂, Libra strives for balance in their lives. Libra is able to see both sides in an effort towards fairness and seeks the middle ground. But peace can sometimes come with a price! My wife loves to grumble under her breath, or very vocally, about my need to imagine into the other side of a story or situation.

Sometimes you just want someone to say, “that’s fucked up!” and not, “well, maybe they’re having a hard day and that’s why…”

Just because Libra is all about balance doesn’t mean it comes easily. In truth, balance doesn't exist. I like to think of it like this, when I'm trying to do a "balancing" yoga pose. Okay, my yoga these days is shit, but that's not the point. When I'm in that space, SOMETHING is always moving. ᴛʀʏɪɴɢ ᴛᴏ ʀᴇᴄᴀʟɪʙʀᴀᴛᴇ. Another way I imagine it is with the old-time scales. You put something on one side, then the other, to get them to hang equally. But, there's always a ᴍɪᴄʀᴏ-ᴍᴏᴠᴇᴍᴇɴᴛ, that same shifting recalibration. ,

Things are not so easily absolute for Libra, there is much comparing, contrasting, and reviewing before making decisions. Libra wants to make the “best/right” decision. The search for idealism and harmony can leave Libra feeling discontent and not living in the moment. With a tendency to be a rule-follower and having high expectations, Libra might have trouble enjoying life as it comes. ᔕᑭOᑎTᗩᑎEITY? To Libra, that’s a four-letter word. You can count on Libra to be calm and compassionate without judgment, to stand up for what they believe in, and be very trustworthy.

Beauty is in the Eye

Libra’s ruling planet is ꪜꫀꪀꪊડ, represented by goddess Aphrodite, the Greek Goddess of Love who had many lovers. Aphrodite is also referred to as a warrior Goddess, coming to the aid of women in need, a very Libran thing to do! Venus is how we express our affections and emotions. It’s what and how we love. Venus is beauty & romance. There is a unique ability to appreciate beauty in the subtle and the mundane, in every little thing. From the fluttering of a butterfly, to the distant chirping bird. Venus notices AND feels it all.

All the Ladies

Top L: Freyja, Top R: Ma'at, Bottom L: Themis, Bottom R: Athena

There are many goddesses associated with Libra. ꪑꪖ’ꪖ𝕥, an Egyption goddess of Justice, weighed the souls of the dead to measure their freedom from transgression.ꪖ𝕥ꫝꫀꪀꪖ, a Greek goddess of Wisdom & War, has been portrayed as the blindfolded woman who oversees the justice of the courts. 𝕥ꫝꫀꪑⅈડ, wife of Zeus and Titan goddess of Divine Law and Order, was called the first oracle, possessing a unique insight and intuition. ᠻ𝕣ꫀꪗ𝕛ꪖ, a Norse Goddess of Love, Beauty & War, helped souls who died in battle and spoke out against injustices. These women kicked ass and took names, in honor of justice, fairness, equality, and (of course) beauty.

Our house is a very, very, very fine house.

Libra rules the 7th house of relationships, partnerships, aesthetics & beauty. For Libra, it’s all about the finer things in life and seeing the beauty in everything, equally. It's a sacred reciprocity. Libra loves being around people, having close relationships, and making friends. Libra is great at bringing people together and keeping everyone connected. But Libra has a habit of putting others needs & wants before theirs. Mostly to their extreme detriment.

It’s all Elemental, my dear.

Libra is an 𝔼𝕝𝕖𝕞𝕖𝕟𝕥 𝕠𝕗 𝔸𝕚𝕣. I like to think of the qualities of the elements when looking at the zodiac. For me, air can be 𝒸𝒶𝓁𝓂, 𝓁𝒾𝑔𝒽𝓉, 𝓊𝓅𝓁𝒾𝒻𝓉𝒾𝓃𝑔. It can gently float a feather and clear away the dust with a soft breeze. Air can also be 𝔣𝔯𝔢𝔫𝔷𝔦𝔢𝔡, 𝔱𝔬𝔯𝔫𝔞𝔡𝔦𝔠, 𝔬𝔲𝔱 𝔬𝔣 𝔠𝔬𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔬𝔩. Air can pick up cars & homes and drop them far from their original destination, destroyed. Air can create a light-headedness and whirlwind of ideas.

Libra is a 𝙲𝚊𝚛𝚍𝚒𝚗𝚊𝚕 𝚜𝚒𝚐𝚗. Cardinal signs bring action, initiation, ambition, and bravery. Kind of like the eldest child in the family, they are seen as leaders and assertive. This might sound counterintuitive for the Libra we described above. Libra can easily do these things for other people, to fight for what’s right and just, to be committed and tenacious. They just have a blind-spot when it comes to doing the same for their own lives.

But wait, there’s more…

There’s always something more going on to add flavor to the mix. This Libra season comes with a 𝕄𝕒𝕣𝕤 ℝ𝕖𝕥𝕣𝕠𝕘𝕣𝕒𝕕𝕖 and (upcoming) 𝕄𝕖𝕣𝕔𝕦𝕣𝕪 ℝ𝕖𝕥𝕣𝕠𝕘𝕣𝕒𝕕𝕖, whose pre-shadow starts today. The Pre-Shadow phase is when Mercury enters the region of stars where it will appear to go backward in retrograde. I’ve also seen it called a Retroshade. It’s a sort of tracing of a pattern, a precursor or preview of what’s to come. It has an “it’s about to go down” kind of feel to it. Don’t worry, any retrograde doesn’t mean you’re fucked, it’s just a time for you to get curious and to look at things with a magnifying glass and take your time doing so. Just be careful not to burn what you’re looking at! You can read about the current Mars Retrograde in my recent blog and stay tuned for the upcoming Mercury Retrograde blog!

What’s it all mean?

𝘗𝘳𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘺 𝘮𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘪𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘯 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘪𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘯. But seriously… it’s all just knowledge. I started paying attention to lunar phases and cycles more than 10 years ago. It always amazed me how things would line up in my life. From there, I began paying attention to seasons and signs.

The more I tuned into all of this, the more life made sense. How I reacted, how I talked to myself, how I treated others, and feelings. Oh the feelings. I don’t use it as a prediction or an end-all-be-all. It’s more like a map or a graph. Kind of like the old-school overhead projectors and transparencies. Put on top of a mirror with an adjustable focused lens and projected illumination. I can use this information to layer on top of or under other bits of life stuff.

Bottom line: Take what you want and leave the rest. It’s your fucking life at the end of the day. Do what brings you joy!

TL:DR

𝐿𝒾𝒷𝓇𝒶 𝒮𝑒𝒶𝓈♡𝓃 gives us the gift of love, peace, and balance. It's a time to sit and savor the beauty in all things. Libra season strives to find balance in all the things. The kicker? Balance doesn't truly exist. It's more about finding a recalibration in things. Notice where you're being indecisive, trying to making things "right," and where you're fixed in your routine. This year, more than ever, Libra season shows us how to take action to stand up for what's right. 𝑾𝒆 𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒏𝒆𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒌 𝒕𝒐𝒈𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒕𝒐 𝒊𝒎𝒑𝒂𝒄𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒊𝒏𝒋𝒖𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒆𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒒𝒖𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒆𝒔 𝒘𝒉𝒊𝒄𝒉 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒖𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒉𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒆𝒏 𝒊𝒏 𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒕𝒓𝒚.

Are you registered to vote?

Do you know who your local and state candidates are?

Have you contributed, in any way, to fight against racism, gender bias, violence against our fellow humxns, or any other cause you feel called to?

With 𝕄𝕒𝕣𝕤 ℝ𝕖𝕥𝕣𝕠𝕘𝕣𝕒𝕕𝕖 in Aries and (upcoming) 𝕄𝕖𝕣𝕔𝕦𝕣𝕪 ℝ𝕖𝕥𝕣𝕠𝕘𝕣𝕒𝕕𝕖 in Scorpio, we'll be slowed down and really able to get up close and personal with our relationship to our anger, instincts, impulses, and communication. With less than 40 days until our Presidential election, there is no time more important than now to connect to something deeper, something greater. Tuning into the Moon and other Star & Planet shifts can offer us a framework, an outline of our feelings, behaviors, and understanding.

As always, may the light shine on you. May the shadows teach you. May you be open to the signs and symbols all around you. They are always there, you just need the right kind of vision.

*Remember, none of these are absolutes. They are just ways to perceive and be curious about what is going on around you and within you. They are what Joseph Campbell called, "a personification of energy, both spiritual and consciousness, that dwell in an individual."  Signs and planets are not gendered, when referenced by She, He or They could also be used.

* By shadow and light, I don’t mean positive or negative. They are expressions of the energies of life which we can tap into during the phases of the moon, flavored by what sign it is in.
